Social Media Traffic and Social Media Marketing Jobs!

Are social media sites a good source of quality traffic? The easy answer to that is “No!” But perhaps that’s too much of a blanket statement.

Of course, it depends on what you are trying to do. If your online business is MLM, which primarily involves traditional salesmanship based on relationships, then perhaps social media is a solid way for you to build relationships with people you might not otherwise be able to.

With that said, if this is the case for your business, then that should be your focus… and don’t waist your time trying to build traffic to a website where there is no personal relationship involved in selling.

By the same token, if you are an online marketing how is trying to get traffic to a website to sell a product like most internet marketers do, then your business is not necessarily based on the same type of social interaction with your potential buyer.

Don’t get me wrong… a trustworthy relationship with those visiting your website with still important for online success – it’s just that it’s a different type of relationship. (this can be achieved with a membership site or an email marketing list through an autoresponder like AWeber.

So, we come back to the same question. Are social media sites a good source of quality traffic? Not if you are looking to drive traffic to your website by qualified buyers interesting in what you have to offer, as opposed to someone who just wants to connect with you on Facebook.

Does this mean that you shouldn’t have a Facebook Page or a Twitter account? Personally, I only build a social media page or account for the back link. And I recommend you do the same as you building quality links back to your website to get more traffic. But going beyond that only wastes your time when you could be spending your efforts on getting quality traffic from proven sources.

No doubt, social media marketing is the craze right now. And there are companies that have created social media marketing jobs for those who want to assist those companies as a social media manager. But if you are an online marketing trying to increase your website traffic, focus on article marketing, pay per click, banner advertising and SEO to get the traffic you need… NOT social media relationships of unqualified buyers.

Yes, there are ways to advertise on facebook to get quality targeted traffic…. but this is another form of Pay Per Click, not to be confused with social media marketing that is based on a personal connection that has little to do with a potential buyer with a problem interesting in the solution you have to sell.

The secret to getting more website traffic is to focus. If you want a social media job, then consider starting a home based business that contracts a service out to a company. Other the other hand, if you want to fill a need for qualified buyers within your market – then spend most of your time getting those people to your website!
