You need to check and see how many keywords are actually getting traffic for you in that market. If you find that you only have 2 or 3 keywords that give your market the bulk of its traffic then you need to find a new market.

You need a market that gives traffic from multiple keywords and not just a few.

Second Way To Tell If Your Market Is Too Competitive:

If you see that every single site in the top 20 is at least 5 years old and has been ranked in that spot for a long time, you need to think about finding a new market. The reason is simple – if a site is really old and a lot of them are ranked really high – chances are your not going to be the one to out rank them.

There are easier ways to get SEO traffic – move on to a new market.

Third Way To Tell If Your Market Is Too Competitive:

You see that no one is really trying to rank for the top keywords in your market & you know that it is very easy. This is a bad sign as well because that means there is no money in that market and you need to move on.
